What is Outpaid?+
A free tool that compares your base pay to the wages your employer swore to the U.S. Department of Labor for people in your exact role. You enter your employer, job title, metro and pay, and in about 30 seconds you see your percentile and whether you’re underpaid (red) or out-earning the filings (gold).
Where does the data come from?+
From the U.S. Department of Labor’s public LCA disclosure file (FY2026 Q3, 1,032,735 rows). Before an employer can hire someone on an H-1B, H-1B1 or E-3 visa, it must file the wage it will pay and attest to it under penalty of perjury. We use the 393,062 certified full-time filings, plus BLS OEWS (May 2024) market wages for all employers.
Is this legal?+
Yes. These are public government records published by the Department of Labor. We show employer-level wage data and public case numbers, never worker names. Discussing your pay with coworkers is also protected for most U.S. private-sector employees under the National Labor Relations Act. This isn’t legal advice.
Is my salary private?+
Yes. Your salary never leaves your device. Your browser downloads the public filings for your employer and does the math itself. Share cards show your percentile and employer, never your salary. Payments go through Stripe, and Stripe never sees your salary either.
Why should I trust these numbers?+
Every filing is a sworn statement with a public DOL case number, and the Dossier lists the case numbers so you can verify them yourself. We only show an employer percentile when there are at least 5 filings in your cohort, and we merge name variants such as “Inc” and “LLC” using the federal employer ID.
My employer doesn’t sponsor visas. Does this still help?+
Partly. If your employer has fewer than 5 filings for your role, we can’t rank you against them, but you can still check rival employers that hire for your role in your city, and the BLS market band covers all employers. The data skews toward tech, finance, healthcare, universities and large companies.
Is the LCA wage what people actually earn?+
It’s the base wage offered on the filing, annualized. It doesn’t include bonuses, stock or raises after hire. Employers must pay at least this amount, so treat it as a floor and a strong benchmark, not a ceiling.
What do I get for $14?+
The Leverage Dossier: your target ask (75th percentile of your exact cohort), your gap in dollars, the nearest filings above you with case numbers, the rival employers that pay more for your role nearby, a word-for-word raise email and counter-offer lines using your real numbers, and a PDF to bring to the conversation.
What does Outpaid Watch do?+
Watch keeps an eye on your number. You get alerts when new quarterly filings change your standing, when your employer files a higher wage for your role, and when rivals post new top offers in your city, plus a monthly market-rate update and raise-timing reminders. $6/mo or $39/yr.
Can I cancel anytime?+
Yes. Watch cancels in one click from the Stripe billing portal (the “Manage billing” link in your receipt or confirmation page) and stays active until the end of the period you paid for. The Dossier is a one-time purchase.
Why not just download the DOL file myself?+
You can, and it’s public. It’s also a 1M-row spreadsheet with hourly, weekly and yearly wage units mixed together, withdrawn and denied cases, and dozens of spellings per employer. You’d have to clean it, merge employers, build cohorts and compute percentiles, then write the email. That takes hours. Outpaid does it in 30 seconds.
Is this financial or legal advice?+
No. Outpaid is an information tool. For visa or employment questions, talk to a qualified attorney. We can connect you with one through “Get matched.”
Were you outpaid?
Your salary is ranked in your browser and never uploaded.
